Robert Wright

The Robert Wright Company Limited, initially a dry goods merchant, later a major department store, occupied the Dunham Block, built 1892-93, 47-51 King Street West at Broad Street, in Brockville, Ontario from 1893 to 1926. They manufactured and sold phonographs and other sound-related equipment, including the Rosco Cabinet Phonograph, under license from the Rosco Manufacturing Company. They sold their business in 1926 to the T. Eaton Company (Toronto) which operated a subsidiary business there, the Canadian Department Stores Ltd., through 1966.

A console model gramophone, made in Canada and sold by the Robert Wright Company Limited, Brockville, Ontario. The manufacturer may have been the Robert Wright Company or it may have been the George McLagan Furniture Co., Ltd., Stratford, Ontario who supplied finished gramophones to many smaller companies who then rebranded the cabinets with their name. An identical console model cabinet gramophone was available from another Ontario company, Westminster, about which we know very little. Listed on Facebook Marketplace in Calgary, Alberta in 2024.
