Marconi

Originally founded as The Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of Canada in 1902 and established at 173 William Street, Montreal, Quebec, the first Marconi home radio receivers appeared in Canada in 1921 and the company was renamed Canadian Marconi Company Limited in 1925. In 1927 the company marketed the "Tona-Phone", a pickup arm that, when attached to any phonograph, would play records electrically through a Marconi radio. In 1928 it marketed the Marconi "Therm-I-Onic", sometimes spelled "Therm-Ion-Ic", which was a batteryless radio combined with an electrically operated phonograph using a cabinet manufactured by the George McLagan Furniture Co., Ltd., Stratford, Ontario.
