Eveready

The Eveready Screen Grid Radio and Phonograph deluxe Model No. 59 was marketed in 1929 by the Canadian National Carbon Co. Limited. The cabinet was made in Canada exclusively for Eveready by Malcolm & Hill Limited, Kitchener, Ontario, one of Canada's leading furniture makers, "in rich two-tone walnut effect with all the beauty of color and wood grain protected by No-Mar finish." Sliding doors concealed the phonograph chamber with convenient storage for four record albums, two for 12-inch and two for 10-inch records, on either side of the radio unit below.

Canadian Furniture World and the Undertaker, May, 1920, p. 43: "The Malcolm & Hill, Limited, Kitchener, Ont., have been incorporated to manufacture and deal in furniture and all kinds of upholstering goods and to acquire and carry on the business of the D. Hibner Furniture Co., Kitchener, Ont. Capital $600,000." As early as 1924, advertisements highlight their "No-Mar Furniture" line. Console-model radios and radio-phonograph combination units, including Atwater Kent, Eveready and Sparton, were the products of Malcolm and Hill Limited.
