Challenge

All we know about the Challenge Phonograph comes from three identical ads in 1919 - December 18, 19 and 20 - by Standfield McPherson Co. (mispelled "Stanfield" in the ad), 499 Bloor West, Toronto. Likely a small local furniture manufacturer was hoping for a quick profit with his product among Christmas shoppers. Standfield MacPherson was a major retail outlet for Starr phonographs. A detailed history of the company and the store is presented in an article published in Antique Phonograph News, STANDFIELD MACPHERSON COMPANY, PHONOGRAPHS - What’s in a Picture - Applied Forensics by Arthur E. Zimmerman and Betty Minaker Pratt.
