Toronto Phonograph Co.

Toronto Phonograph Co., formerly Queen City Manufacturers (Feb 1908), was a major jobber and dealer of Columbia products in Ontario.

Columbia's first company in Canada was called the Columbia Disc Talking Machine Co. Initial ads appeared in Canadian newspapers in December 1902. The company was located at 8 Yonge St. Arcade, Toronto. By late 1903, their address was 277 Yonge Street.

In January 1904, they changed their name to Columbia Phonograph Co., Gen'l and by February had moved to new quarters at 107 Yonge Street. They were the exclusive agency for Columbia products in Canada and later manufacturers of the Columbia Graphophone in Canada.

In August 1908, Toronto Phonograph Co. purchased the entire stock of the Columbia Phonograph Co., Gen'l and operated out of the same location as Columbia, 107 Yonge Street, which was listed as head office, wholesale and retail. Their major Toronto retail store in 1908 was at 474 Queen Street West. Henceforth, Columbia Phonograph Co., Gen'l did not sell directly to the retail trade nor did it carry any stock in Canada. Distribution was through its Canadian jobbers, including Toronto Phonograph Co. in Ontario.

By late 1908, the Columbia Phonograph Co., Gen'l factory was at 40 Melinda Street, Toronto. Toronto Phonograph Co. moved to this address in January 1909.
